Intel Labs has launched “Intel Science and Technology Centers” and “Intel Collaborative Research Institutes” to foster collaborations and development of communities including Intel and academia.  The mission is to build global collaborations with academic pioneers to discover and drive the ways in which computing will enrich the human experience for generations to come, and to be leaders, by leveraging the resulting insights to influence Intel.  Each research community is Intel-funded, jointly-led, and focused on a specific technology domain, bringing together top researchers from academia and Intel together to explore and uncover not only new answers, but new questions.

The Intel Collaboration Research Institute for Computational Intelligence is focused on machine learning, brain inspired computing and heterogeneous computer architecture. The institute is based in Israel at the Technion in Haifa and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem (HUJI) and include researchers also from Bar-Ilan University, the Weitzman Institute and the Shenkar college. The center is mainly affiliated with the Intel Lab System on Chip Platform Architecture Lab The center was inaugurated on May 22, 2012.
